Artist StatementOne of my earliest art memories is from when my mother brought out a cluster of watercolor paints and markers. She was so exited to draw with her two children. Only, about ten minutes in, I gently stopped her arm. "Mom, I have to tell you something." She stopped, confused. My face was full of tenderness and pity. "You know...it's okay if you're not as good at art as me and Dad. You can get better if you keep practicing."
Needless to say, while I'm definitely less arrogant and self-assured about my artistic skills, my love for it hasn't diminished. In fact, as I have learned about the absolute power art can hold; it's history and impact and processes, my passion and appreciation has increased tenfold. I've gone through highs and lows, and with every break I've taken, it isn't long before I'm forced back into it. I enjoy exploring and challenging myself artistically, learning about art movements and styles, and finding new depths to push myself into. Art is an incredible thing that can tell a story, express the words we as humans cannot voice, make hope or sorrow or reflection blossom inside us, bring people together or simply add beauty to the world. |
